Can you guess?

Hello my friends,

Just a quick post in between. Can you guess what these will become?

I am playing with airdrying clay and have started making six items tbat used to be commonplace in households all over Europe and America.

It may not look much now but it should look a whole lot better by the time I have finished them.

I will give you a hint. The name of this item (in English) is used a lot nowadays in relation to the covid pandemic. But the finished item is not a medical device.

Intrigued? Care to have a guess? The first to give the right answer below will get little gift. Free of charge for I will pay the costs for shipping it to the lucky winner.

Good luck,

Huibrecht

  3. Ah, thus far you are all playing safe I see! I will give you a hint. The final objects that these slabs of clay will become could often be found near fireplaces....

    Groetjes,
    Ilona

  5. I really love riddles - but I have to quit on this one. ;O) My first thought just looking at the pictures was "violin/cello/bass piece"... you know, this wooden part holding the strings up where the bow is pulled. *LOL* But this wouldn't fit neither to your hints nor to your project as I suppose your Manor will not host a chamber orchestra. I'v read in your response that your objects are related to fireplaces but I still don't get it... well, I can happily blame my poor Engllish for that, lean back comfortably and wait for the solution of this riddle. But one thing is already pretty clear - those pieces are very well made, I would go nuts if I had to make cutouts like that from a small piece of clay! ;O)

    Hugs

  7. Is it a curfew, or couvre feu in the French, used to protect the hearth from sparks from the fire at night?

  8. Yes indeed! You have guessed correctly Jonquil. Well done!

I will send you an email, and very soon I will post here about the curfew's that I am making.
